Finding your fit

4 mm is our pick: present under an open collar, quiet with a shirt. 6 mm reads clearly over a T-shirt. 8 mm is worn on its own. 20" (51 cm) sits at the collarbone; 22" (56 cm) if you plan to add a pendant.

Size guide

Why this link

The curb link is called grumetta in Italian. The Cuban cut tightens it until it reads as a single surface. It's the chain most men picture first. At 4 mm, it stays elegant.

How to wear it

18" (46 cm) stays close to the neck, 20" (51 cm) sits at the collarbone, 22" (56 cm) drops onto the upper chest and leaves room for a pendant, and 24" (61 cm) hangs lower on the chest. The 4 mm is discreet, the 6 mm reads clearly, the 8 mm is a statement.

Wear the 4 mm under an open shirt collar and the 6 mm over a plain T-shirt. To layer two chains, keep about 2 inches (5 cm) between them, such as 20" with 24". The 8 mm looks right alone, without a pendant.

Living with steel
  • Silver tone. This is bare steel. There is no plating to wear off. Shower, sea, gym: it can stay on. A soft cloth brings the shine back.
  • Gold tone and black. A plated layer sits on the steel. Water is fine. Chlorine, perfume and constant friction wear it faster. Take it off for the pool, put your cologne on first, and it will last longer.
  • What our warranty covers. Clasps that fail and links that break under normal wear, for one year. Normal surface wear isn't a defect, and we'd rather tell you now.
Shipping and returns
  • Processed within 48 hours, then shipped with tracking. Delivery times by country are in our shipping policy.
  • Free tracked shipping over $60. Below that, the shipping cost is shown at checkout before you pay.
  • 30 days to return it, unworn and in its original packaging. Return postage is on you, unless the piece arrived faulty or wrong.
  • 1-year warranty on clasps and links. Send us 3 or 4 photos and your order number. If it's a defect, we send a new one. No need to post the old one back.

Questions

Will the black or gold Cuban link chain lose its color faster than the silver one?

It can, over years of wear. The silver version is bare stainless steel with no coating, so there is nothing to wear off. The black and gold-tone versions are plated, and perfume, chlorine and constant friction wear a plating faster than water alone.

What is under the gold-tone plating of the Cuban link chain?

Stainless steel, the same steel as the silver version. The gold color is a plating, and the silver version is the bare steel with no plating at all.

Which Cuban chain length should I pick if I want to hang a pendant on it later?

22 inches (56 cm). The 20 inch (51 cm) sits at the collarbone, which suits the chain worn alone, while 22 inches gives a pendant room to hang on the upper chest. If the length turns out wrong, send it back unworn within 30 days.

Is the 8 mm Cuban chain too bold to wear under a dress shirt?

Yes, it is made to be seen. The 8 mm is worn on its own, over a T-shirt or an open collar. If you want a Cuban chain that stays quiet under a shirt, the 4 mm is the one.

4mm vs 6mm Cuban chain: which one should I get?

4 mm is a clean everyday chain that shows at an open collar and stays quiet under a shirt. 6 mm is clearly visible over a T-shirt from across the room. If this is your first chain, 4 mm is the safer choice.

What is the difference between a Cuban and a Figaro chain?

A Cuban chain repeats the same twisted, flattened curb link, so it reads as one smooth surface. A Figaro alternates short links with a longer one, usually three short and one long, so it has a visible rhythm.

What length should I get for a broad or athletic build?

Go one size longer than you would on a slim frame: 22" (56 cm) or 24" (61 cm). A 20" chain that sits at the collarbone on a slim neck can feel tight on a larger one.

Does a Cuban chain kink or twist?

Rarely. The flattened curb links lie flat and turn freely, so the chain falls back into place on its own. Avoid folding it hard or yanking it, which can bend a link.

How thick does a 6mm chain look on a guy?

A 6 mm chain reads clearly over a T-shirt from across a room, without being a statement piece. Over a plain tee, the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (6 mm) is a classic choice; the Franco Link Chain Necklace (6 mm) has a square, four-sided profile that turns without twisting. Both come in silver-tone steel, gold-tone or black.

How thick is an 8mm chain? Is it too much?

8 mm is a statement: it is meant to be worn on its own, without a pendant or a second chain. If that is the look you want, the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (8 mm) and the Byzantine Chain in Stainless Steel (8 mm) are good picks. If you want a chain that goes with everything, step down to 4 or 6 mm.

What chain width suits a slim guy?

On a slim build, 3 to 4 mm looks balanced; wider chains can look heavy. The Cuban Link Chain Necklace (4 mm) or the Figaro Link Chain Necklace (3 mm) at 18 or 20 inches work well. Browse more in our thin chains.

What chain thickness looks good on a big, broad guy?

A broader frame carries 6 to 8 mm easily, and a 4 mm can look small. Try the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (6 or 8 mm) or the Franco Link Chain Necklace (6 mm). Go a size longer too: 22 to 24 inches usually sits better on a broad chest and neck. See our thick chains.

2mm vs 4mm chain: which is better for a man?

It depends on how you want it seen. 2 mm is a fine line for linen shirts and layering; 4 mm is present under an open collar and works alone. If you want one chain for everything, take 4 mm: the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (4 mm). If you prefer barely there, the Flat Snake Chain Necklace (2 mm).

3mm or 6mm chain for a guy who wears mostly T-shirts?

Over T-shirts, 6 mm reads clearly; a 3 mm tends to disappear against the fabric. Take the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (6 mm) or the Figaro Link Chain Necklace (6 mm). Keep the 3 mm for open shirts or as the short chain in a layered pair.
