Men's Figaro chains: the 3 + 1 link pattern

A Figaro chain is easy to recognize: three short, flat links followed by one long link, repeated along the whole chain. That rhythm gives it more character than a plain curb chain, while its flat profile keeps it comfortable and close to the skin. It is one of the most versatile chains a man can own, good on its own and good as a base for a pendant.

The Figaro chains in this collection are made of stainless steel or titanium steel (a stainless steel alloy, not pure titanium). Each one comes in bare polished steel (silver-tone) or with a gold-tone plating.

How to choose the width

On a Figaro chain, width changes how clearly you see the long link. The wider the chain, the more the 3 + 1 pattern shows.

  • 3 mm: fine and discreet. Sits flat under a shirt, and works next to a watch without competing with it.
  • 4 mm: still easy to wear every day, with a pattern you can read over a t-shirt.
  • 5 mm: a step up in presence, for men who wear the chain alone.
  • 6 mm: the boldest width. The pattern is visible from across a room.

For a pendant, stay at 3 or 4 mm: the chain supports it without taking the attention away from it.

How to choose the length

Where a Figaro chain lands on an average adult neck:

  • 16": tight to the neck, like a choker. Only for a slim neck.
  • 18": at the base of the neck, visible in a shirt collar.
  • 20": just below the collarbone. The most common length for a Figaro chain worn alone.
  • 22": on the upper chest, sits outside a crew neck.
  • 24" and 26": mid-chest, the right length for a pendant or as the lower chain in a layer.

If you have a larger neck, or you are between two sizes, choose the longer length.

What to wear a Figaro chain with

Alone

A 4 to 6 mm Figaro chain in 20" or 22" over a plain t-shirt is the simplest way to wear it. With a shirt, open one or two buttons so the chain shows.

With a cross

The Figaro is a classic chain for a cross. Two of our men's cross chains, the Figaro Chain with Cross Pendant and the Slim Cross Pendant Necklace, already come on a Figaro chain.

Layered

A flat Figaro chain layers well under a rounder, more textured chain. Try a Figaro at 20" with a rope chain at 22" or 24". Keep the two in the same color for a clean look.

Caring for a steel Figaro chain

  • Wipe it after wearing with a soft, dry cloth.
  • You can keep it on in the shower, at the gym, at the sea or in the pool. Rinse it in clean water after the sea or the pool, dry it, and keep perfume and cleaning products off it. On the gold-tone version, chlorine and friction wear the plating over time.
  • Apply perfume and lotion before putting the chain on.
  • Store it flat or hung so the long links do not twist or tangle.

Every Figaro chain is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects, and you can return it within 30 days.

FAQ

Figaro chain FAQ

What is a Figaro chain?

A Figaro chain is a flat link chain with a repeating pattern of short links and one longer link. Our Figaro chains use the most common version: three short links, then one long link.

What width Figaro chain should a man wear?

3 or 4 mm for a discreet everyday chain or a pendant base, 5 or 6 mm if you want the chain to be the main piece.

Is a Figaro chain good for a pendant?

Yes. Its flat links keep a pendant steady. Choose a thin width (3 or 4 mm) and a length of 22" to 24".

What is the difference between a Figaro and a Cuban chain?

A Cuban chain repeats the same twisted link all the way around. A Figaro alternates short and long links, which gives it a visible rhythm. Compare both in our Cuban link chains.

What are these Figaro chains made of?

They are stainless steel or titanium steel. The silver color is bare polished steel, and the gold color is a gold-tone plating.
