Silver-tone Figaro chain with a cross

The Figaro pattern, three short links then one long, has a rhythm that suits a cross well: the long link gives the eye a pause, the cross gives it a point. Two of the five pieces on this page come with a cross already on a Figaro chain; the other three are plain Figaro chains, so you can hang a cross you already own. All are stainless steel or titanium steel in a silver tone. Silver here is the color, not the metal.

Figaro chains that come with a cross

The 50 cm version sits just below the collarbone, so the cross shows with an open collar. The 22" or 24" slim cross drops onto the chest and works over a T-shirt.

Adding your own cross to a Figaro chain

• Small cross, under 3 cm: the 3 mm Figaro chain, 18" to 24", is enough.
• Medium cross, 3 to 5 cm: the Figaro link chain in 4 or 5 mm, 16" to 26".
• Large cross or crucifix: 6 mm, such as the Figaro chain necklace in stainless steel (18", 20", or 24" in silver-tone).

With a cross, choose one length longer than you would wear the chain alone, usually 22" or 24". Check that the cross's bail passes the clasp.

Wearing it

A cross on a Figaro chain is a personal piece, and it can be worn under a shirt as easily as over one. Under a shirt, take a flat cross and a 3 mm chain so nothing shows through. Over a T-shirt, a 4 to 5 mm chain keeps the cross from looking lost. If you add a second chain, keep it plain and about 2 inches shorter. More crosses on other chains are on our cross chains page.

Care

Shower, sea and pool are fine with steel. Rinse with clean water after the sea or the pool and dry it. Perfume and chlorine wear the plating on gold-tone and black versions over time; bare silver-tone steel has no plating.
