Gold curb chain bracelets: getting the size and the clasp right

A curb chain bracelet looks best when it sits flat and does not spin around the wrist. That comes down to two choices: the length, and the clasp. This page covers both for our gold-tone curb and Cuban bracelets, all made of stainless steel or titanium steel with a gold-tone plating. To choose the width for your wrist, see our gold curb bracelets page.

How to measure your wrist

Wrap a strip of paper or a soft tape measure around your wrist, just above the bone, and mark where it meets. That is your wrist size. Then add room depending on width:

  • Up to 6 mm wide: add about 0.5 to 0.75 inch.
  • 7 to 10 mm wide: add about 0.75 to 1 inch, since wide links take up more space on the inside.
  • 12 mm and wider: add about 1 inch or a little more.

Our sizing guide on measuring a chain uses the same method for necklaces.

Box clasp or lobster clasp?

A box clasp slides into the last link and clicks shut. It sits flush, so the bracelet looks like a closed band; side-locks add a second safety catch. It is the usual clasp on a Cuban. The Cuban bracelet with box clasp comes in 6, 8 or 10 mm. A lobster clasp is smaller and more discreet, as on the Chunky Curb Link Bracelet and the 15 mm Polished Curb Link Bracelet. If you have never worn a bracelet, start with a box clasp: it is the easier of the two to close on your own wrist.

Gold curb chain bracelet and watch

Next to a watch, pick a length that keeps the bracelet from sliding over the watch head, and a width a little narrower than the watch strap. The Cuban bracelet in stainless steel in 4 or 5 mm, or the 3 or 5 mm Cuban Link Chain Bracelet, are good partners.

FAQ

FAQ

My wrist is 7 inches. Which length?

For a 6 to 8 mm curb, 7.5" or 8". For 10 mm and wider, 8" or more.

Can I shower with a gold curb bracelet?

Yes. Rinse it in fresh water after the sea or the pool and dry it; chlorine and perfume wear the gold-tone plating over time.

What are the stones on the clasps?

Cubic zirconia. The bracelets themselves are stainless steel or titanium steel with gold-tone plating, not gold.

What if it is too loose?

Return it within 30 days and choose another length. Shipping is free over $60.
