Men's chain bracelets: pick the link first, then the size
A chain bracelet is the easiest piece of jewelry a man can add. It works with a T-shirt, a knit or a shirt cuff, and it sits fine next to a watch. Every bracelet in this collection is made of stainless steel or titanium steel, in a silver-tone, gold-tone or black finish.
The hard part is choosing. There are many link styles here, from flat Cuban links to woven wheat and Byzantine weaves. This page helps you narrow it down in three steps: link style, width, then length.
Step 1: choose a link style
The link decides the look more than anything else. Here is how the main styles read on the wrist.
- Cuban and curb links. Flat, interlocking links that lie close to the skin. The most classic choice. See the full range in our men's Cuban link bracelets.
- Rope and wheat links. Twisted or braided, with a rounded profile and a lot of texture. The rope chain bracelet is 5mm wide, a good everyday size.
- Byzantine links. A dense weave of small rings. It looks heavier and more detailed, like the Byzantine link bracelet in 6mm or 8mm.
- Tennis bracelets. A single row of cubic zirconia stones. Covered in detail in our men's tennis bracelets.
- Cuffs and bangles. Open or rigid shapes with no links, for a cleaner, more structured look.
Step 2: choose a width
Width is listed in millimeters on each product. As a simple guide:
- 3 to 5mm: discreet. Easy to stack with a watch or a second bracelet.
- 6 to 8mm: clearly visible without being loud. The safest pick for a first bracelet.
- 10mm and up: a statement piece. Best worn alone, often on the wrist without a watch.
A larger wrist can carry a wider link. On a slim wrist, a 12mm or 15mm link will look bold, which can be exactly the point.
Step 3: choose a length
Measure your wrist just above the wrist bone with a soft tape, or with a strip of paper that you then lay on a ruler. Add about 0.5 to 1 inch (1.5 to 2.5 cm) of room. Add less for a close fit, more for a looser drape or a wider link.
Lengths in this collection run from 6.25 inches up to 10 inches, depending on the model. Some bracelets come in one length only, such as 8.25 inches (21 cm) or 8.75 inches, so always check the length shown on the product before ordering. The paperclip link bracelet has an extender chain and adjusts from 16.5 cm to 20 cm.
Wearing a chain bracelet with a watch
You can wear both on the same wrist. Keep the bracelet thinner than the watch case so the watch stays the focus, and match the tones: steel watch with a silver-tone bracelet, gold-tone watch with a gold-tone bracelet. If you prefer a wide link, wear it on the other wrist.
Want a coordinated look with a necklace? Our chain and bracelet sets page explains how to match link and width between neck and wrist.
Caring for a steel bracelet
- Rinse with fresh water after the sea, the pool or a workout, then dry it with a soft cloth.
- Avoid perfume, lotion and cleaning products on the links.
- Store it apart from other pieces so polished surfaces do not scratch each other.
- On gold-tone and black finishes, the plating can soften at friction points over time. A gentle wipe keeps it bright longer.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best width for a men's chain bracelet?
For most men, 6 to 8mm is the easiest width to wear every day. Go 3 to 5mm if you stack with a watch, and 10mm or more if you want the bracelet to be the main piece.
How do I know my bracelet size?
Measure your wrist above the bone, then add about 0.5 to 1 inch. Compare that number with the length listed on the product page.
Which wrist should a man wear a bracelet on?
There is no rule. Most men wear the watch on the non-dominant wrist and the bracelet either next to it or on the opposite wrist to balance the look.
What are these bracelets made of?
They are stainless steel or titanium steel. Silver-tone is the color of the polished steel, and gold-tone or black is a plated finish on the steel.
What if the bracelet does not fit?
You can return it within 30 days. Each piece also comes with a 1-year warranty against defects.
