Men's crucifix: meaning, tradition and how to wear one
A crucifix is a cross that carries the figure of Christ. Where a plain cross speaks of the Resurrection, the crucifix puts the sacrifice at the center. It is the traditional symbol of Catholic and Orthodox Christians, and for many men it is the piece received at a baptism, a confirmation or from a father.
This collection holds our two crucifix necklaces. Both are made of titanium steel, a stainless steel alloy, and come in silver-tone (the bare polished steel), gold-tone or black plating.
Our two crucifixes
| Crucifix Pendant Necklace | Byzantine Chain with Crucifix | |
|---|---|---|
| Engraving | Ephesians 1:17 | The Lord's Prayer in Spanish |
| Pendant | 58 x 37 mm, two layers | Polished crucifix |
| Chain | 3 mm chain, 60 cm (24") | Byzantine chain, 22" to 31" |
| Finishes | Silver-tone, gold-tone, black | Silver-tone, gold-tone, black |
The Crucifix Pendant Necklace in Titanium Steel sets a polished figure of Christ against an engraved cross. The Titanium Steel Byzantine Chain with Crucifix Pendant pairs the crucifix with a dense, woven chain and suits men who want a heavier, more visible piece, and Spanish-speaking families who want the prayer in their language.
Wearing a crucifix with respect
- Over or under the shirt: both are traditional. Many men wear it under the shirt every day and over it for Mass or family celebrations.
- Alone: a crucifix is best worn as the only pendant. Avoid stacking it with fashion pendants.
- Finish: silver-tone is the most classic; gold-tone is warm and traditional in many Latin and Orthodox families; black is a modern reading.
Prefer a cross without the figure? See our main men's cross chains. To choose by chain length, read our page on the crucifix necklace.
Care
Clean the figure and the engraving with a soft cloth or soft toothbrush and mild soap, rinse and dry. Shower, sea and pool are fine; rinse in clean water after salt water or chlorine. Perfume and chlorine wear gold-tone and black plating over time. 1-year warranty against defects, 30-day returns, free shipping over $60.
