Thick gold-tone chains for men: the wide end of our gold-tone range
A thick gold-colored chain is the boldest look we make. The color comes from a gold-tone plating on a steel base: 316L stainless steel or titanium steel (a stainless steel alloy). This page lists only the gold-tone chains offered at 6 mm or more. For every gold-tone chain, thin ones included, see our main gold-tone chains page; for thick chains in every color, see thick chains.
Gold-tone chains from 6 mm
| Chain | Gold-tone widths from 6 mm | Lengths |
|---|---|---|
| Gold-tone Cuban link chain | 8 to 18 mm | 18" to 30" |
| Heavy curb chain necklace | 6 to 12 mm | 16" to 30" |
| Franco link chain | 6, 9 or 13 mm | 22" to 30" |
| Byzantine link chain | 8 mm | 22" |
| Titanium steel wheat chain (gold-tone) | 6, 7 or 8 mm | 24" (7 mm also 30") |
| Cuban link chain necklace | 6 or 8 mm | 18" to 24" |
| Figaro link chain | 6 mm | 16" to 26" |
Widths and lengths are those listed for each model; the product page shows which combinations exist in gold-tone.
Why the plating matters more on a thick chain
On a wide chain, there is more surface for light to hit, so the gold-tone color is what people see first. It also means more surface rubbing against skin and clothes. A few habits keep it bright longer: put the chain on after perfume and lotion, rinse with clear water after the sea or the pool, and dry it. Chlorine and perfume wear plating over time. Showering with it is fine.
Which thick gold-tone chain for which look?
- The classic bold chain: the gold-tone Cuban link chain, with a box clasp set with cubic zirconia.
- The most range in length: the heavy curb chain necklace, from 16" to 30".
- Square and dense, for a pendant: the Franco link chain in 316L stainless steel.
- Textured instead of shiny: the Byzantine or the gold-tone wheat chain.
Questions about thick gold-tone chains
Are these chains made of gold?
No. They are steel with a gold-tone plating. Gold is the color, steel is the material.
Will the gold-tone color fade?
Plating wears with time, faster with perfume and chlorine. Rinsing and drying the chain slows this down.
What width of gold-tone chain should I start with?
8 mm is a good first thick gold-tone chain; go 10 mm or more if you already wear a bold chain.
What is covered?
A 1-year warranty against defects, 30-day returns, and free shipping over $60.
