Which width suits a chain this short?
At 18", the chain sits at the base of the neck, so it stays in view. That changes how much width you need:
- 1.2 to 3 mm: a fine line at the neck. The box chain and the flat snake chain are the cleanest choices, also for a small pendant.
- 3 to 5 mm: present without being heavy. A good everyday range in Figaro, wheat or geometric links.
- 6 mm and up: a statement. At 18", a wide Cuban or curb chain sits high and looks bolder than the same chain in 22". Choose it if you want the chain to be the first thing seen.
What to wear with an 18" silver-tone chain
