The silver Franco chain: a square link that moves like a bar
A Franco chain is a four-sided curb. Its V-shaped links are woven tight into a square profile, so the chain looks the same from every angle and never flips. It is a strong, dense chain, made to be worn on its own. Ours is the Franco link chain necklace, in 316L stainless steel. In its silver tone, it is bare polished steel: silver is the color, not the metal. It also comes in gold-tone and black plating.
Sizes of our Franco chain
| Width | How it reads | Lengths available |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | The everyday Franco, and plenty | 22", 26", 28", 30" |
| 9 mm | Bold, worn alone | 22", 26", 28", 30" |
| 13 mm | Very bold, the chain is the outfit | 22", 26", 28", 30" |
Choosing your Franco
Width
6 mm is the Franco most men should start with. It already has real presence because the square profile shows its full thickness. 9 and 13 mm are statement chains: worn alone, over a plain T-shirt or a hoodie.
Length
22" sits just below the collarbone and is the classic Franco length. 26" to 30" give a longer, lower line, often chosen to carry a heavy pendant or for a streetwear look. Tall men with broad shoulders can wear 28" or 30" without it looking long.
Why a Franco and not a Cuban
A Cuban is flat and lies against the skin; a Franco is square and round to the touch, closer to a rope of solid links. A Franco keeps its shape and does not twist, which is why it is often used to hang a heavy pendant. If you prefer a flat, shiny band, look at our men's Cuban link chains. For other heavy links, see men's thick chains, and for every link we carry, the men's chain styles page.
Care
Bare steel takes the shower, the gym, the sea and the pool. Rinse the chain in clean water after salt or chlorine and dry it well, as water can sit inside dense links. On the gold-tone and black versions, perfume and chlorine wear the plating over time.
