A stainless steel bracelet you never take off
A steel bracelet is the piece men keep on: through showers, the gym, a swim in the sea. It does not rust and keeps its shape. What decides whether you actually leave it on is less the link than the closure and the fit. This page sorts our steel bracelets by how they close and how they live with a watch. They are stainless steel or titanium steel, in bare steel, gold-tone or black finishes.
To choose by link style first, see men's chain bracelets.
Choose by closure
| Closure | Best for | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Box clasp | Wide links, maximum security | Silver-tone Cuban link bracelet (6 to 16 mm), Cuban link chain bracelet with box clasp (6 to 10 mm) |
| Lobster clasp | Fine and mid-width chains | Wheat link chain bracelet (3 to 6 mm), paperclip link bracelet |
| Magnetic clasp | Easy on and off with one hand | Double wheat link bracelet, wheat link bracelet with magnetic clasp |
| Open cuff or hook bangle | A rigid band instead of links | Cable cuff bracelet (open cuff, no clasp), twisted steel hook bangle (closes with a polished hook) |
Living with a watch
- Same wrist: keep the bracelet to 3 to 6 mm so it does not crowd the case. A wheat or rope bracelet sits well next to a steel watch strap.
- Other wrist: go as wide as you like. A 10 mm Cuban balances a large watch on the opposite arm.
- Cuffs and bangles are rigid; wear them on the free wrist so they do not knock the watch.
Getting the size right
Measure your wrist with a soft tape, then add 0.5 to 1 inch for a chain bracelet. Wider links need the larger margin, since they take up more room around the wrist. Several bracelets come in many lengths, such as the bicycle chain link bracelet from 6.25" to 10", so you can be precise.
Water, gym and wear
Shower, gym, sea and pool are fine. Rinse with clean water after the sea or the pool and dry it. On gold-tone and black finishes, perfume, chlorine and friction against a desk or a barbell wear the plating over time; bare steel has nothing to lose. For lifting, a magnetic clasp can open under load, so a box or lobster clasp is the better choice for training.
FAQ
Will a stainless steel bracelet turn my wrist green?
Steel does not turn skin green. A dull film from sweat rinses off.
What width is best for a men's steel bracelet?
4 to 6 mm next to a watch, 8 mm and up on its own.
Is titanium steel different from stainless steel?
Titanium steel is a stainless steel alloy, not pure titanium. Both wear the same day to day.
What if it does not fit?
Exchange or return within 30 days. A 1-year warranty against defects applies, and shipping is free over $60.
