A box chain is the quiet partner of a pendant. Its small square links make a smooth line that does not compete with what hangs from it, so the pendant gets all the attention. Choosing a pendant

Minimal and modern

The bar pendant necklace is the simplest piece here: a polished four-sided bar, easy to wear every day, under a shirt or over it. The Square Pendant is bolder, with cut corners and a flat black inlay.

A medal of faith

The Saint Benedict medallion is a traditional medal, engraved in sharp detail, in polished silver-tone steel or gold-tone plating.

A statement medallion

The Lion Head Medallion has a sculpted lion's head framed by cubic zirconia. The Compass Pendant has an antiqued, dark finish that brings out its raised star.

Bringing your own pendant

If you already have a pendant, a box chain on its own is the safest base. Our stainless steel box chain comes in 1.2 to 3 mm and 16" to 28"; the titanium steel box chain is 1.5 mm, in 18" to 24". Two quick rules:

• Width: 1.5 to 2 mm for a small, light pendant; 2.4 to 3 mm for a larger one.
• Bail: the loop of the pendant must be wide enough for the chain's clasp to pass through.

Care

These necklaces are stainless steel or titanium steel. Silver-tone is bare polished steel; gold-tone is a plating. You can wear them in the shower, at the gym, at the sea or in the pool. Rinse in clean water after the sea or the pool, dry the pendant and store the chain flat or hung, so a fine box chain does not kink.
