Gold plated or silver-tone? The same men's chain, in two finishes
Many men searching for a "gold plated silver chain" want one thing: a chain they can have in a gold color or a silver color, without changing the model. That is what this page gathers. Each chain below is made in steel, either 316L stainless steel or titanium steel (a stainless steel alloy, not pure titanium), and each one is offered in two finishes: bare, silver-tone steel, or the same steel with a gold-tone plating.
To be clear about the words: "silver" here is the color of polished steel, and "gold" is the color of the plating. Under the gold-tone plating there is steel, the same steel as the silver-tone version, and it does not rust.
Chains offered in both finishes
| Chain | Width | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy Curb Chain Necklace | 6 to 12 mm (16 mm in silver-tone) | 16" to 30" |
| Rope Chain Necklace in Stainless Steel | 3, 4 or 5 mm | 20" to 26" |
| Flat Snake Chain Necklace | 2 to 5 mm | 16" to 24" |
| Figaro Link Chain Necklace | 3 to 6 mm | 16" to 26" |
| Wheat Link Chain in Titanium Steel | 3 mm | 20", 24" or 28" |
| Franco Link Chain Necklace | 6, 9 or 13 mm | 22" to 30" |
A few combinations are limited: the 16 mm Heavy Curb Chain Necklace is made in silver-tone only, the 6 mm Figaro Chain Necklace in Stainless Steel comes in 24" in silver-tone only, and the 1.5 mm Box Chain in Titanium Steel comes in gold-tone in 18" or 20" only. The Franco chain and the Cuban Link Chain Necklace also have a black plated version.
How to pick between the two finishes
Match what you already wear
Look at your watch and your belt buckle. A steel watch goes naturally with silver-tone; a gold-tone watch case calls for gold-tone. If your watch is two-tone, either works.
Think about upkeep
Bare steel has no plating to wear, so it is the low-effort choice. Gold-tone plating needs a little more care: perfume, chlorine and friction wear it over time.
Or own both
Because the link and the width are the same, you can wear the silver-tone and gold-tone versions together for a two-tone layer. The Heavy Curb Chain Necklace, the Rope Chain Necklace in Stainless Steel and the Flat Snake Chain Necklace all work this way. Leave about 2" between the two lengths.

Care
Both finishes can go in the shower, the sea and the pool. Rinse in clean water after salt water or chlorine, dry with a soft cloth, and put perfume on before the chain. Every chain has a 1-year warranty against defects and 30-day returns.
Gold plated silver chain FAQ
What is under the gold-tone plating?
Steel: stainless steel or titanium steel, depending on the chain. The silver-tone version is bare polished steel, and the gold-tone version is the same steel with a gold-tone plating.
Is the gold-tone version a different size?
No. The link and the size of each link are the same; only the surface color changes. A few widths and lengths exist in one finish only, as listed above, so check the product page for the exact combinations.
Can I wear the silver-tone and gold-tone versions together?
Yes. Matching links in two colors make an easy two-tone layer. Keep about 2" between the lengths so they do not tangle.
