Stainless steel pendant necklaces: picking the right size

About half of the steel necklaces on this page carry a pendant: crosses, saint medallions, a compass, a bar. The question men ask most about a pendant is size. Too small and it disappears, too large and it wears you. Below, our pendants are listed by real height, so you can pick by build and by how you dress. All are stainless steel or titanium steel, in bare steel, gold-tone or black finishes.

Pendants by size

Which size suits you

• Under 30 mm: for every day, under a shirt or with a slim build. Nobody notices it until you want them to.
• 30 to 45 mm: the all-round size. Shows with an open collar, sits flat over a T-shirt.
• Over 45 mm: a statement piece, best on a broader chest or worn alone over a dark tee.

The minimalist cross is the easiest way to get it right: one design in three sizes, so you choose the height and nothing else.

Chain length and the pendant

Most of our pendant necklaces come on a 60 cm (about 24") chain, which puts the pendant mid-chest. A 50 cm chain lifts it just below the collarbone. The 45 cm bar sits at the collarbone. For the full list of pendants with their chains, see our chain pendants.

Care

Shower, gym, sea and pool are fine. Rinse with clean water after the sea or the pool and dry the pendant, where water collects around the bail and in engraved detail. Perfume and chlorine wear gold-tone and black plating over time.
