Men's Necklaces

Men's necklaces as a gift: how to choose without knowing his size

Buying a necklace for a man is easier than it looks, even if you do not know his neck size or his taste in jewelry. A few safe choices cover most men, and steel takes the worry out of daily wear. This page is a short guide for anyone choosing one of our men's necklaces as a gift: for a partner, a father, a brother or a son.

Start from what he already wears

• He wears a steel watch: choose silver-tone, which is bare polished steel and matches it.
• He wears a gold-color watch or rings: choose gold-tone, a gold-color plating over steel.
• He wears mostly black: a black-plated piece, or silver-tone for contrast.
• He wears no jewelry at all: a fine chain or a small pendant, nothing wide.

The safe sizes

When in doubt, go one size longer: a necklace a little long still looks right, one too short does not. Pendant necklaces are easier still, because most come on a single chain length, often about 60 cm (23.6 in).

Gift ideas by type of man

The quiet one

The Figaro Chain in Stainless Steel, a slim 3 mm chain in titanium steel, in 18" to 24", silver-tone or gold-tone.

The one who wants it seen

The Cuban Link Chain Necklace in 6 mm, in silver-tone, gold-tone or black. For bolder widths, see our men's thick chains.

A gift with meaning

The Navigational Compass Pendant Necklace, a 20 mm compass on a 53 cm chain, or a faith piece from our men's cross pendant chains.

Why steel makes a practical gift

He will not have to take it off: steel handles the shower, the gym, the sea and the pool. The only tip to pass on is to rinse it in clean water after the sea or the pool. On gold-tone and black, perfume and chlorine wear the plating over time.
