Men's medallion necklaces: a round or oval pendant with a story

A medallion is a flat, coin-like pendant with an image struck or engraved on its face. Where a cross is a shape, a medallion is a surface: it carries a saint, an animal or a symbol, and it reads best when it lies flat on the chest. This collection gathers our four medallion necklaces, each sold with its chain, ready to wear.

All four are steel. The Oval Medallion Pendant Necklace is titanium steel; the Saint Benedict Medallion Box Chain Necklace, the Archangel Medallion Snake Chain Necklace and the Lion Head Medallion Pendant Necklace are stainless steel. Silver is bare polished steel; gold-tone and black are platings over steel.

Medallion size and where it sits

A medallion should match its chain length: a small one sits high, a large one needs room on the chest.

MedallionPendant sizeChain
Archangel Michaelabout 20 mm roundSnake chain, 40 cm + 5 cm extender (15.7 to 17.7 in)

Saint Michael, oval39 x 20 mmWheat chain
Lion head with cubic zirconia40 x 55 mmBox chain, about 60 cm (23.6 in)

The Archangel sits at the base of the neck, close to a crewneck. The Saint Benedict and the lion head hang on the upper chest, visible over a t-shirt or in an open collar. The oval Saint Michael sits at or just below the collarbone.

Faith medallion or statement medallion?

Saint medallions

The Saint Benedict and the two Saint Michael pieces are traditional faith medals, engraved or in relief. They are quiet pieces: worn alone, on top of a plain tee or under a shirt. If you want a cross instead, see our men's cross pendant chains.

The lion head

The lion head is a sculpted medallion framed by cubic zirconia. It is the boldest piece here, so let it be the only necklace you wear, with a dark tee or a knit. For every other pendant style, browse all our men's chain pendants.

Caring for a medallion

Steel does not rust, and you can keep a medallion on in the shower, at the gym, at the sea or in the pool. Rinse it in clean water after the sea or the pool and dry it, especially the engraved face, where salt can settle. Perfume and chlorine wear a gold-tone or black plating over time, so put perfume on before the necklace. Every piece has a 1-year warranty against defects and 30-day returns.

FAQ

Medallion necklace FAQ

Does the medallion come with a chain?

Yes. Each medallion is sold on its own chain: snake, box or wheat, depending on the model.

Who is on the Saint Michael medallions?

Both show the Archangel Michael, a traditional figure of protection: the oval one is engraved with an inscription around the edge, the round one is in relief.

What are the stones on the lion medallion?

They are cubic zirconia, set in a circle around the lion's head.

Can I layer a medallion with another chain?

The oval Saint Michael layers well with a finer plain chain about 2 inches shorter. The lion head and the Saint Benedict look best worn alone.
