Gold Byzantine chain for men: a woven chain in gold-tone steel
The Byzantine chain is the most textured link we make. Each ring passes through four others, folding into a dense, rope-like weave with real depth. In gold-tone, that texture catches light from every angle, so the chain looks rich without needing a wide width. On this page you will find our two gold-tone Byzantine necklaces. Both are titanium steel with gold-tone plating; the word gold describes the color, not the metal.
The two gold-tone Byzantine necklaces
| Necklace | Width | Lengths | Worn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Byzantine Link Chain Necklace | 8 mm | 22" (56 cm) | Alone, no pendant |
| Byzantine Chain with Crucifix Pendant | Byzantine chain | 22", 24", 26", 28", 30", 31" | With an engraved crucifix |
The plain chain is a single length. At 22 inches it rests just below the collarbone, which works with a crewneck or an open collar. The crucifix version offers six lengths: 22" places the crucifix just below the collarbone, 24" or 26" brings it to mid-chest, and 28" to 31" hang lower still. Its crucifix carries the Lord's Prayer engraved in Spanish.
Is a Byzantine chain right for you?
- Yes, if you want one chain that is noticed for its weave rather than its size. At 8 mm, a Byzantine looks fuller than an 8 mm Cuban because the links are three-dimensional.
- Think twice if you want something flat and discreet under a buttoned shirt. A box or figaro chain suits that better; see our gold-tone chains for thinner options.
- Layering: the weave is the detail, so it looks best on its own. Keep other jewelry minimal.
For the Byzantine link in every finish, including silver-tone, see our Byzantine chains.
Matching the wrist
The Byzantine Link Chain Bracelet uses the same 8 mm weave in gold-tone, in an 8.75" length that suits wrists of about 7.7 inches. Neck and wrist then match link for link. The bracelet is sold separately.
Caring for a woven chain
A dense weave can hold soap, salt and sweat between the rings. You can shower, swim in the sea or the pool with it; afterwards, rinse it in fresh water, pat it dry and let it air out flat. Perfume and chlorine wear gold-tone plating gradually, so apply cologne before putting the chain on. Never pull a Byzantine into a tight fold: lay it flat or hang it.
FAQ
What is a Byzantine chain?
A chain where each ring links into four others, forming a woven, round profile. It is sometimes called a king's chain.
Is the gold Byzantine chain made of gold?
No. It is titanium steel with gold-tone plating.
Can I add a pendant to the plain Byzantine chain?
The weave is meant to be worn alone. If you want a pendant, choose the Byzantine chain that comes with its crucifix, in the length you prefer.
What is your return policy?
30 days to return it, a 1-year warranty against defects, and free shipping over $60.
