20 inch gold rope chain in gold-tone steel: one length, four widths
At 20 inches, a rope chain rests on the collarbone on most men. It is the length where the twisted links show best: low enough to be seen at an open collar, high enough to stay in place over a t-shirt. Once the length is set, the real choice is the width, and in gold-tone we offer four.

How to pick your width
Think about how you will wear it most days.
- With a pendant: 2.3 or 3 mm. The rope carries the pendant without competing with it. Keep the pendant small at 20"; a larger one hangs better on 24".
- Alone, every day: 3 or 4 mm. A 4 mm gold-tone rope has enough presence on its own and sits comfortably under a collar. For more on that middle width, see our 4mm rope chains.
- As a statement: 5 mm, over a plain t-shirt or an open shirt.
A simple rule: the broader your build, the wider the chain can be without looking heavy.
