Men's silver curb chains: the heavy link, sized right
The curb is the classic heavy chain: flat, twisted links that lock into each other and lie flat on the chest. The Cuban link is a tighter, rounder member of the same family. This page focuses on the curb as a substantial necklace and on choosing its width and length together. Every chain here is silver-tone stainless steel or titanium steel; silver is the color, not the metal.
Curb or Cuban: what changes on the neck
A classic curb has slightly more space between its links, so each link shows on its own and catches light separately. A Cuban is packed tighter and reads as one smooth band. The heavy curb chain necklace is our classic curb. The silver Cuban link chain and the other Cubans on this page are the tighter version. For the Cuban side in depth, see men's Cuban link chains.
Width and length go together
The heavier the curb, the shorter it should be: a wide chain that hangs low swings and pulls. Here is how the real sizes of the heavy curb chain combine (it comes in 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 mm, and from 16" to 30").
| Width | Look | Lengths that work best |
|---|---|---|
| 6 mm | Visible, still easy every day | 18" to 24" |
| 8 mm | Clearly a statement | 20" to 22" |
| 10 mm | Bold, worn alone | 20" to 22" |
| 12 mm | Very bold | 20" to 24" |
| 16 mm | Maximum presence | 20" to 24" |
Longer lengths, up to 30", suit tall men or a deliberately low, relaxed look. On broad shoulders, a wide chain looks proportionate; on a slim frame, 6 or 8 mm is usually enough.
Wearing a heavy curb
- Alone: from 8 mm, a curb does not need a pendant. Wear it over a plain T-shirt or with an open collar.
- With a bracelet: a curb bracelet in a narrower width balances the look. The heavy curb chain bracelet comes in 8 mm.
- Layered: pair it with a thin chain only, never two heavy chains at once.
For other heavy links (Franco, cable, Byzantine), see our men's thick chains page.
Care
Silver-tone curb chains are bare polished steel, so there is no plating to wear off. They are fine in the shower, the sea and the pool; rinse in clean water after salt or chlorine and dry.
FAQ
What is the difference between a curb and a Cuban chain?
A Cuban is a tighter, rounder curb. Both use the same interlocking principle.
Is a heavy curb chain uncomfortable?
Steel has weight, but a curb lies flat, so it stays comfortable. Start at 6 or 8 mm if unsure.
Is a silver curb chain made of silver?
No, it is silver-tone stainless steel or titanium steel.
What if the width is too much?
You can return it within 30 days.
