Where a chain sits depends on its length. Here is how each length falls on an average build.
Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 56 cm (22").
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm (2") more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm (3.4") long: count how many fit along your strip.

6 mm is the one for every day, and plenty. 9 and 13 mm are worn alone, and they're seen. This chain starts at 22" (56 cm), just below the collarbone; take 26" (66 cm) for a pendant.

Wear 6 mm over a T-shirt or under an open collar, alone or with a pendant on 26". Wear 9 and 13 mm alone, with nothing layered next to them.
Living with steel
- Silver tone. This is bare steel. There is no plating to wear off. Shower, sea, gym: it can stay on. A soft cloth brings the shine back.
- Gold tone and black. A plated layer sits on the steel. Water is fine. Chlorine, perfume and constant friction wear it faster. Take it off for the pool, put your cologne on first, and it will last longer.
- What our warranty covers. Clasps that fail and links that break under normal wear, for one year. Normal surface wear isn't a defect, and we'd rather tell you now.

Is the 6mm Franco chain enough for everyday wear?

A Cuban is a flat curb chain with two faces. A Franco has V-shaped links woven into a square profile with four faces, so it looks the same from every side and turns without twisting.
Is 13mm too big?
For most men, 13 mm is a bold statement worn on its own. If this is your first chain, 6 mm is the everyday width and already shows clearly.
What is the black version made of?
316L stainless steel with a black plating. The silver version is bare stainless steel, and the gold version has a gold-tone plating.
