Men's heavy gold chains: weight you can feel, in gold-tone steel
A heavy chain is not only wide: it has dense links that you feel on the neck and that move as one dense band. This page keeps only the gold-tone chains that give that feeling. They are steel with a gold-tone plating, so you get the presence of a heavy gold-tone chain on a base of stainless steel or titanium steel (a stainless steel alloy, not pure titanium). For thick chains in every finish, and a full width guide, see our men's thick chains.
The heaviest gold-tone chains we make
| Chain | Heavy widths | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain | 8 to 18 mm | 18" to 30" |
| Heavy Curb Chain Necklace | 8, 10 or 12 mm | 16" to 30" |
| Franco Link Chain Necklace | 9 or 13 mm | 22" to 30" |
| Byzantine Link Chain Necklace | 8 mm | 22" |
| Titanium Steel Wheat Chain Necklace | 7 or 8 mm | 24" (7 mm also in 30") |
| Cuban Link Chain Necklace | 8 mm | 18" to 24" |
The Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain closes with a sturdy box clasp set with rows of cubic zirconia; the Byzantine chain uses a lobster clasp.
Choosing a heavy chain that stays comfortable
Go a little longer
A heavy chain at 18" can feel tight and ride up on the neck. Most men are more comfortable with a wide chain at 20" to 24", where its weight rests on the collarbone or the chest instead of the throat.
Pick the width for your build
8 to 10 mm is already a strong chain on most men. 12 mm and up is a statement; it suits a broad neck and chest, or anyone who wants the chain to be the whole outfit. The Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain covers the full range, from 8 to 18 mm.
Look at the link
Cuban and curb links lie flat and look massive from the front: the Heavy Curb Chain Necklace is built from closely set curb links for a dense, weighty feel. Franco and Byzantine are dense and rounded, so they look heavy from every angle. The Franco Link Chain Necklace in 316L stainless steel is also the strongest base we have for a heavy pendant.
Wearing a heavy gold-tone chain
Wear it alone. A heavy chain does not need a pendant or a second chain; at most, add a thin chain several inches shorter. A plain t-shirt or an open collar shows it best. For a matching wrist piece, a gold-tone Cuban bracelet exists in the same widths.
Care
Heavy chains rub more on collars and on each other, so store them apart. You can keep one on in the shower, at the sea or in the pool; rinse it in clean water after salt water or chlorine and dry it. Every chain has a 1-year warranty against defects and 30-day returns, and shipping is free over $60.
Heavy gold chain FAQ
What width counts as a heavy chain?
From about 8 mm, a chain starts to feel substantial. At 12 mm and above, it is clearly a heavy chain.
Is a heavy chain uncomfortable to wear all day?
Not if the length is right. Choose 20" or more so the weight rests on the collarbone.
Are these heavy chains gold?
They are gold-tone: steel with a gold-tone plating.
