Men's gold crucifix: what sets it apart from a cross

A cross is the bare shape: two bars. A crucifix adds the figure of Christ on it. That small difference matters to many people who wear one. A crucifix is a more explicit image of faith, traditionally close to Catholic and Orthodox practice, while a plain cross is shared across Christian traditions. If that is the piece you are looking for, this page is for you: our two gold-tone crucifixes, compared side by side. Both are titanium steel with gold-tone plating; gold is the color, not the metal.

Which one to choose

The Crucifix Pendant Necklace is the modern option. The polished figure of Christ stands out against a matte, engraved cross, and the open space at the end of each arm gives it a lighter outline. Its 3 mm chain is fine enough to wear under a shirt collar. Choose it if you want a crucifix for every day.

The Byzantine Chain with Crucifix is the traditional, more visible option. The dense Byzantine chain has weight and texture of its own, so the necklace is noticed even before the crucifix. Choose it if you want one strong piece, worn alone over a dark sweater or a T-shirt, and if you want to pick your length.

Wearing a crucifix

  • Wear it on its own. A crucifix next to other pendants loses its meaning and its look.
  • Keep the same tone at the wrist, or none. A gold-tone crucifix with a steel watch is fine; with a silver-tone chain as well, it gets busy.
  • For a crucifix worn mostly under the shirt, the 3 mm chain is the more comfortable one.

Prefer a plain cross? See our gold-tone crosses by style. For crucifixes in silver-tone and black as well, see our cross chains.

Care

The figure and engraving have fine relief. Shower, sea and pool are fine; rinse in fresh water afterwards and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid polishing pastes, which wear gold-tone plating on the raised parts first.
