Men's Cuban link chains, from 4 mm to 18 mm

A Cuban link is a curb link that has been twisted and flattened, so each link presses against the next. The result lies flat on the chest and reflects light in one clean line. It is the most recognizable men's chain, and the one where size matters most: a 4 mm Cuban and a 14 mm Cuban are two different statements.

All of our Cuban chains are stainless steel or titanium steel, in bare silver-tone steel, gold-tone plating or black plating depending on the model.

Our six Cuban chains, at a glance

  • Cuban Link Chain Necklace: stainless steel, 4, 6 or 8 mm, 18" to 24". Silver-tone, gold-tone or black. The everyday Cuban.
  • Silver Cuban Link Chain: polished stainless steel, 6 to 16 mm, 18" to 30", box clasp with safety latch. The 6 mm comes in 24" or 30" only.
  • Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain: stainless steel with gold-tone plating, 8 to 18 mm, 18" to 30", box clasp detailed with cubic zirconia.
  • Bold Cuban Link Chain in Titanium Steel: 10 mm, silver-tone, in 20", 22" or 24". Beveled links, no stones.
  • Cuban Link Chain with Pave Clasp: titanium steel, 18" to 26". In silver-tone, the links and the clasp are set with cubic zirconia; in gold-tone, only the clasp is.
  • Cuban Link Chain with Cubic Zirconia: titanium steel, 12 mm, 18" to 26", with cubic zirconia set into every link. Silver-tone or gold-tone.

How wide should a Cuban chain be?

  • 4 mm: present under an open collar, quiet with a shirt. The easiest first Cuban.
  • 6 mm: reads clearly over a T-shirt. Still everyday.
  • 8 to 10 mm: made to be seen. Worn on its own.
  • 12 mm and up: bold and heavy on the chest. The 12 mm set with cubic zirconia, or the plain silver-tone and gold-tone Cubans up to 16 and 18 mm. Best on a broader frame, or when the chain is the whole outfit.

Not sure? Hold a ruler against your collarbone. 6 mm is close to the width of a pencil.

How long should a Cuban chain be?

Wider Cubans look shorter on the body because they sit flat and stiff. As a rule, the wider the chain, the more length helps.

  • 18": close to the neck. Good in 4 to 6 mm.
  • 20": at the collarbone. The default for most men.
  • 22" to 24": upper to mid-chest. Where 10 mm and wider Cubans sit well over a T-shirt.
  • 26" to 30": low on the chest, for a long, loose look.

Wearing a Cuban chain

  • Alone: from 8 mm, a Cuban needs nothing next to it.
  • With a bracelet: match the tone and stay close in width. Our Cuban link bracelets use the same link, including the Silver Cuban Link Bracelet made to pair with the silver chain.
  • Layered: a 4 mm Cuban above a longer rope or box chain, with about 2 inches between them. Avoid two wide Cubans together.

Care

Rinse in clean water after the sea or the pool and dry with a soft cloth. On gold-tone and black models, keep cologne off the chain and skip abrasive cloths: plating is a surface layer and wears with friction. On pieces set with cubic zirconia, a soft brush and plain water clean the settings.

FAQ

FAQ

What size Cuban link chain should I get?

For a first Cuban, 4 or 6 mm in 20". Go 8 to 10 mm if you want it seen, 12 mm and up for a statement worn alone.

Do you have a black Cuban link chain?

Yes. The Cuban Link Chain Necklace comes in a black-plated finish, alongside silver-tone and gold-tone. The product page shows the widths and lengths available in black.

What stones are set in the Cuban chains?

Cubic zirconia, set in steel. Three models carry them: the 12 mm chain with stones in every link, the chain with the pave clasp, and the box clasp of the gold-tone Cuban link chain.

Can a Cuban chain hold a pendant?

It can, but the flat links make a pendant sit stiffly. If a pendant is the main piece, a box or Franco chain from our chain styles works better.

Cuban link vs. curb chain: what is the difference?

A Cuban is a curb link twisted and flattened further, so the links close up into one continuous band. A curb chain shows a little more of each link.

What's the difference between a Cuban link and a curb chain?

A Cuban link is a curb chain whose links are twisted and flattened tighter, so it lies flat and reads as one surface. A regular curb has a little more space between links. Cuban: the Cuban Link Chain Necklace. Curb: the Heavy Curb Chain Necklace (6 to 16 mm). See Cuban chains.

Is a Cuban chain a good everyday chain?

Yes, it is the easiest: flat, comfortable, it goes with a shirt or a T-shirt. Keep it at 4 to 6 mm for daily wear and in bare steel so there is nothing to wear off. The Cuban Link Chain Necklace (4 or 6 mm). See Cuban chains.

Cuban chains: which one should I get?

Everyday: the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (4 to 8 mm, silver-tone, gold-tone or black). Bold silver-tone: the Silver Cuban Link Chain (6 to 16 mm). Bold gold-tone: the Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain. Iced: the Cuban Link Chain with Cubic Zirconia. See Cuban chains.

8mm or 10mm Cuban chain?

Both are worn alone. 8 mm is a clear statement; 10 mm is bold and heavier on the neck. In silver-tone steel: the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (8 mm) or the Bold Cuban Link Chain in Titanium Steel at 10 mm. In gold-tone: the Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain (8 or 10 mm).

How wide is the 6mm Franco chain compared to a Cuban?

Both are 6 mm wide, but they read differently: the Cuban is flat and reflects light like one surface, the Franco is square with four faces and moves like a flexible bar. The Cuban Link Chain Necklace (6 mm) is lighter in look; the Franco Link Chain Necklace (6 mm) is denser and is our strongest base for a pendant.

Cuban chain vs Franco chain: which is stronger and which looks better?

The Franco is the sturdier build: V-shaped links woven into a four-sided profile, which is why it is our strongest base for a heavy pendant. The Cuban is flatter and shinier, the classic look most men picture first. Franco Link Chain Necklace (6 to 13 mm) or Cuban Link Chain Necklace (4 to 8 mm), both in silver-tone steel, gold-tone or black.

Miami Cuban link chain in steel?

For the wide, flat Miami Cuban look: the Silver Cuban Link Chain (6 to 16 mm, box clasp with safety latch), the Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain (8 to 18 mm, gold-tone) or the Bold Cuban Link Chain in Titanium Steel (10 mm). Pair with the matching bracelet in the same width.

Gold Cuban link chain for men?

Gold-tone Cubans on steel: the Cuban Link Chain Necklace (4, 6 or 8 mm) for everyday, and the Gold-Tone Cuban Link Chain (8 to 18 mm, cubic zirconia box clasp) for a bold look. Matching bracelet: the Gold-Tone Cuban Link Bracelet.
